Venice Beach Recon: Sunday Edition


Dateline: Sunday, June 26, 2016.  We began today's mission at the Ocean Park/SMS parking lot behind SMS Tower #27... and walked out to Tower #28 and down to Venice to just south of the Venice Pier and made our flip turn at Buccaneer and then returned to SMS Tower #28... Here are the photos and videos of this reconnaissance mission...

And at Tower #28, it looks like the responsible OL is washing his windows!...


... and it is none other than veteran LACo OL/Ph.d., Mike Peoples!...


We stopped and said hi to Mike and he told us about the huge troth and inshore holes between Tower #28 and #27...

Welcome to Venice!...


Arriving at Rose Ave. next... we can see how the recent storm swells have carved out the sand so that the ramp is literally on the precipice!...

... meanwhile at Brooks Ave, we find OL Jack Baghamian watching the water...


Walking on toward the Breakwater, we notice one of our Baywatch rescue boats on scene outside the surf line along a huge rip current...

As Buccaneer we say hi to OL Chris Smith who, when we asked about it, showed us his radio which allows him to listen in on the Lifeguard frequency in Central Section... gotta get me one of these...


... and then we made our flip turn at Buccaneer and headed back in the direction of Santa Monica...

While stopping to say hi to Colin, a couple of swimmers started to struggle between Ave 23 and Ave 21 and both guards converged and hit the water...

We stopped and said hi to Brandon at Ave 18 and decided to take a swim... and got our GoPro camera ready and then a rip current started to pull off of Ave 19 and OL Charlie Patch hit the water with Brandon backing him up and so we just started videotaping it...

after our swim, we headed in the direction of the Breakwater...


North of the Breakwater we see OL Roald Marcova waving his rescue can on the berm with OL Max in the back ground walking toward his tower at Westminster...

Meanwhile at Thornton is Rookie OL, Helene Miles, who we saw graduate from the Lifeguard Academy just a week ago and she's now on schedule in Venice...



Next, we arrived back at Rose Ave and got another shot of OL Hatfield on his ramp from probably 30 plus feet below near the water's edge...

Next up, it was Navy St., where we found OL Berris and OL Ward, two of our lady ocean lifeguards...



Returning to SMS, we find veteran OL, Justin Kirby, spot us from a couple hundred feet off...


same went for OL Nick Sullivan and OL Mike Peoples, below, at SMS Tower #28... who spot me from a couple hundred yards off with my camera...

and then we get a surprise... on the sand, off duty but still watching the water, below, L2R, Captain Angus Alexander (Ret.) and OL (Ret./Attorney, Chris Monahan...


These two guys, Sullivan and Peoples, are all over it and watching the water at Tower #28...
