Heads up!

Over the weekend L.A. County won its 26th consecutive National Championship!

Wow!  Congratulations to all of our competitors on this very special victory and accomplished with only 39 competitors who made the trip back east to Cape May, NJ.

•  Summary of LACo Lifeguards USLA National Champs 2012, by Adam Sandler:

"LACoLA nabbed its 26th consecutive USLA National Lifeguarding Championships win Saturday by topping perennial rival Monmouth County, NJ 630 to 613.5 points. Also, Taylor Spivey, who has been making a name for herself this competition season, was the Women's points leader with 66.25. Teammate Tandis Morgan came in 4th with 34 points. Of the Top 10 Women, four were from the LACoLA team. Brian Murphy won the Board Race and the Ironman, among others, and was second in Men's points (42.5) to leader Monmouth's Matt Nunnally (53). Tandis nabbed the 3rd spot in the grueling Ironwoman, followed by Spivey in 4th. Notably, five of the 10 Ironwoman winners were from LACoLA, including Renee Locarnini (5th), Bridget Rome (7th) and Capt. Chris Linkletter, who came in 10th. And no recap would be complete without a mention of Eldin Onsgard (in the 60 - 64 age group), who competed in nine events and won four of them, including the Ironman, Board Race, 2km beach run and wait for it.... Beach Flags!

All in all, a good showing. I'm told the humidity was at times oppressive.

More later,

Adam"
