All Hands On Deck + Summer Weather...
Late this morning, the LACoFD Lifeguard Division put out a "all hands on deck" voice mail phone message to all LACo Ocean Lifeguards to make themselves available to work today due to the summer like weather we are enjoying, not to mention the remnants of the last NW swell.
On our lunch break we set our feet in motion for the bluffs at the end of Santa Monica Blvd. (aka, Route 66) to check out the beach. The weather was easily in the 80's with barely any wind and not a cloud in the sky.
It was perhaps 2:15 pm when we saw a lifeguard vehicle plotting a course from the direction of SMN Tower #12 and heading toward the pier. Stopping just north of shuttered Tower #14, what we witnessed unfold was a paddleboard rescue by the area Captain of two long distance swimmers who had ventured out "head up" and doggie paddling for the breakwater and were slowly making their way back to shore.
Well, see for yourself...

Paddleboard Rescue at SMN #14: The Video

Preventing drownings is what we do a great deal of the time and this paddleboard rescue was no exception. The Captain reached the two swimmers and escorted them back to shore safe and sound.
Well done!
