"The Eames Body Litter", An Appreciation of

(Photo above show the Eames "Body Litter" built in 1943 and made of molded plywood).

Last week we visited the L.A. County Museum of Art (aka, LACMA) which is hosting an exhibit in the Resnick Pavillion called:

California Design, 1930–1965: "Living in a Modern Way"

Resnick Pavilion
October 1, 2011–June 3, 2012
web: http://www.lacma.org/art/exhibition/californiadesign

Included in this exhibit is a sample molded plywood body litter (similar to the modern day backboard) made by the famed designers, Charles and Ray Eames, in 1943 for potential use by the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII, though production and use by U.S. Troops was never realized. Nevertheless, it is a striking design!

This Exhibit also included an early "Clipper" model of the now "Classic" AIRSTREAM trailer. Note the aerodynamic shape of the front and rear of this aluminum clad trailer.

---

Additionally, there were two classic "Longboards" on display.

Below, a HOBIE longboard from 1961

Below, A "GREG NOLL" Longboard from 1960. Greg Noll, of course, was for many years an LACo Recurrent Beach Lifeguard and had his surf shop in Hermosa Beach.

That's it! 10-4

Until next time.....
