Zuma Reconn - Wed., July 26, 2017

A funny thing happened on the way to Zuma. At Pt. Dume on PCH on the shoulder to the right was a CalTrans portable digital sign advising drivers to use right hand lane to the underpass to reach Zuma Beach..... So I stayed in the right hand lane and did as suggested.....

Zuma Underpass Flooded, 07.26.17: The Video

After performing that immediate 180 degree detour and choosing a different entrance, I arrived at Zuma Beach!...

Dateline: Mid morning to 12 noon, approximately, Wednesday, July 26, 2017, the editorial and photo staff with "County Recurrent" walked from Tower 300 in front of Zuma Lifeguard HQ up to Trancas and back... Here are the photos of this water's edge reconnaissance...

Above and below, broken up pieces of kelp (aka "Wrack") appear just below the high tide line.  This is an important part of the ecosystem, esp. for wildlife.  It is because of the importance of "Wrack" that LACDBH does not use its tractors and rakes any closer to the water's edge.

FYI; below is a link to an article with information provided by UCSB with respect to defining "Wrack" and explaining its importance.

After spending most of my time walking along the shoreline in Santa Monica and Venice, it is a surprising treat to walk along near the water's edge at Zuma because the beach and the sand itself are so clean and well maintained!...

Prevention and Ordinance Enforcement, in progress.  Rookies: pay attention!...  :-)

"They" replaced the large FOOD signs at Zuma with tiny FOOD signs.  What a shame. I loved those larger than life FOOD signs.

Below, off duty, veteran OL Brad Heinrich, at left, with his son and college student/rugby player, Nick Heinrich, enjoying the surf together...

Above and below, Zuma OL, Logan Hotchkiss, on duty...

Hey, now isn't that???...   Veteran Zuma OL, Ed Heinrich, on a day off.....

Below, Ed Heinrich and his son, Brad... and at far right sitting down is Brad's younger son...

Looks like Logan Hotchkiss has gained perhaps 3 - 4 pounds...  :-)     in his calves.

Below, veteran LACo OL, Brian Renner, with Malibu Beach Club Lifeguard (and a State Beach Lifeguard), Brendan Donahue (Paul's son!)...

Above and below, veteran Zuma OL, Dick Heinrich, works as a beach lifeguard for a surf camp up at Trancas on his days off from his Zuma schedule...

Below, the Heinrich clan plus a friend enjoying the beach at Zuma...  L2R, Nick, Brad, Melissa (not a Heinrich) and Ed.

On duty at Tower #9, above and below, (L.A. City Fire Captain) LACo OL, Sean Findley...

The A Team at TOWER 300, below...

Above and below, on the sand doing head up crunches, L2R, OLS John Zimpelman and Capt. Eric Wylie, under the watchful eyes of a LACo OL, which I believe is Serion.

... and then it was time to head back to Central Section......

 Goodbye, Zuma!... Seeya next time.....

10-4

Until next time.....
