"County Recurrent" has recently received an outpouring of support from its legion of loyal Recurrents. We've got a bunch of photos now to share with ya'all, with, of course, the customary commentary provided by the editorial staff here at County Recurrent's news desk.
And so we begin this journey across the Sections, far and wide, yesterday and today, as well as parts North, South, East and West...
*** We start off with three outstanding photographs taken by LACo Recurrent Ron Pearlman from this past August 2008 while stationed at Will Rogers Tower #10, where Bear Surfboards hosted a display of their quiver of righteous boards:
The Full Quiver: This first shot was taken during a beach patrol, while watching the water, and then deftly and accurately pointing the camera with one hand...
The Bear, The Real BEAR !!!...
The End of Another Glorious Shift... in Central Section... this shot also courtesy of Ron Pearlman, Lifeguard-Firefighter-Photographer, and thus raising the bar and closing the gap with Thorson's famed tower sunset shots
*** Next up, a couple shots from yesteryear...
Here's one courtesy of LACo Recurrent and Hollywood Medic, Tony Whitmore, which shows him and his dory partner, Tom Katsouleas, Ph.d, circa early 1980's...
And check out the swimmer, second from left, who won the Annual New Years' Day Polar Bear Swim at the Venice Breakwater back on January 1, 1984. Yes Folks, that's Northern Section's Bob Janis, S.O.L., as well as at far right, former LACo Recurrent, Kerri Culbertson who won First Place in the Women's Divison...
*** And just in, courtesy of Nick Steers, with photo by Heidi Llovet, and back to the present, from Sunday, March 22, 2009, a rainbow off SMN Tower #8, Sorrento Beach, from the Jonathan Club...
*** And now, off the beach, off-duty, and from way, way, way up north...
From Spring 2007, name this off-duty Northern Section Lifeguard-Lawyer enjoying some time off on Chair 23 at Mammoth Mountain...
And from March 14, 2009, County Recurrent, while on special assignment in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., noticed this vehicle with the ZUMA sticker on the back window, and upon further inspection, the requisite Crossed Oars Lifeguard decal and LACO B&H Parking Permit... name that off-duty No. Section lifeguard... who later found a note on the windshield wiper that read: ZUMA sucks, Central Rocks !... with this reporter's name and phone number on the back...which led to a very fun cell phone conversation and this reporter admitting "off the record" that, yes indeed, "ZUMA is God's Country"...
*** And Finally, we leave you with this recent photo forwarded to us by LACo Recurrent, Eric Shargo, Ph.d, Ret., now a tenured professor at Moorpark College who sent us this on March 21, 2009, and confirming that, yes, he is loved at home...
THAT'S ALL FOLKS !...
Until next time.....
