The Mother Of All Inshore Holes!...

Dateline: Saturday, January 3, 2014 in the late afternoon on the occasion of a minus tide of approximately 0.8.  We took this opportunity to conduct an audit and reconnaissance of the "Mother Of All Inshore Holes" that exists presently out front of Santa Monica South (SMS) Tower #29... right where Pacific Ocean Park (P.O.P.) used to be "back in the day".  The recent winter storms have torn up the sand along the shoreline all along SMS and Venice North.  This particular lateral running inshore hole leads to a huge troth that funnels out through the surf line. If there were even a bit of the surf we've had lately on a falling tide, this inshore hole would be feeding a ravenous rip current!... Well, see for yourself!

And then we ventured back to the "Mother Of All Inshore Holes" at SMS Tower #29 in an effort to determine the depth of the troth leading out to the open ocean!...

------

Gnarly, huh?!... We told ya so!...

And with that we leave this beast of an inshore hole and hope nobody falls into it... though we do want to swim it at a medium tide with some surf just for the thrill of it...

10-4

Until next time.....

I remember back in the late 70s that the inshore holes became a real problem as the first summer swell hit on Memorial Day weekend...I was assigned Navy Street and Rose Ave towers that weekend.. at one point I sat on an inshore bank and as swimmers floated out in the rip running from the holes, I could pull them out just be letting my can float out. Nearly catching fish...
