Ode to the IZOD® Red Hoodie...

Say what you will... but the IZOD® nylon red zippered hoodie that we've worn as LACo Ocean Lifeguards for the past 10 plus years has been excellent in terms of performance, visibility and durability!  With the change over to the navy blue HELLY HANSEN® Loke hooded (shell) jacket, effective Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, we take a look back at some of the photos we've taken over the past several years showing our guards on duty wearing this epic Red IZOD® lifeguard hoodie.

New Uniform Pick up at CSHQ (aka, LS 200)

Veteran LACo OL, Bill White, in the brand spanking new CONDOR® on duty zippered jacket... free if you work over 170 days a year)

Dateline:  Thursday morning, 1000 hrs, at Santa Monica Lifeguard Headquarters (aka, CSHQ; aka, LS 200).

And so after several years of investigation and negotiation, the "new uniforms" are here!

Below are today's photos of this historic event which features multiple trademarks and brands, as opposed to the single branded IZOD® gear before.

This time around, we've got (including but not limited to):

•  KATIN® board shorts (x 2)

•  PATAGONIA® long sleeve rash guard (one) (aka, PPE something, e.g., performance protection)

•  GILDAN® long sleeve t-shirts (x 2)

•  FLEXFIT® cap (one)

•  HELLY HANSEN® shell jacket (one) (note: this is a thin zippered windbreaker and is probably not going to keep you warm on cool/windy days)

Ocean Lifeguards also get one pair on nylon pants, 2 extra LACo patches for use on alternate branded board shorts that have been approved by an area Captain).

Note: There is a CONDOR® zippered nylon jacket (as worn by OL Bill White, above and below, that is free if you work over 170 days a year.)

Comment:  Personally, I think every OL should have this CONDOR® nylon zippered jacket for warmth and should not have to pay for same. Hopefully, the Dept. and LACOLA will step up on this issue.  It is much more tailored and fitted than our previous Red Winter Jackets and not nearly as protective or practical as our current IZOD nylon zippered hoodies... which are EXCEPTIONAL, in my personal opinion.

 I am sure going to miss our Red IZOD zippered hoodies which are comfortable, roomy, comprehensively protective and with tremendous basic utility and low maintenance!
